Western Trip 2015 - Zion National Park

Next up - Zion National Park.   The drive from Kanab to the park entrance is captivating!  Look at that beautiful blue sky!

They use red rock for the pavement!

The "hike of the day" is thru a slot canyon.  It's called "The Narrows".  You literally walk up the Virgin River -  a very cold but currently shallow river.

Like all slot canyons, we were warned not to attempt this hike when there is even a small threat of rain/thunderstorms.  Even if it's not raining where you are, upstream storms could cause severe flash floods.  You may remember recently several hikers lost their lives in this area due to exactly that occurrence.

But, there was 0% chance of rain - so off we sloshed!

Armed with water shoes and hiking sticks for stability on the sometimes slick rocks.

Sometimes shallow, sometimes swift.

Sometimes threatening to get us a bit wet!

The canyon was mostly shaded....

We found a little sunny sandbar to stop and have a snack.

After the first hour or so upstream, the crowds dwindled.

Lovely, isn't it?

Lovely few hours - time to hike back downstream.

We took another short hike - time to call it a day!

And another lovely drive back to our rental house in Kanab!
